Televisa unit to meet demands of English-speaking auds
Xenon Pictures, the U.S. homevideo distrib of Mexican media giant Televisa, has begun releasing its DVDs with English subtitles to meet demand from English-speaking second- and third-generation Latinos in the U.S.
It has kicked off with “Amor real,” which scored average ratings of 25.9 on Spanish-language net Univision, and “Rubi,” which posted a 24.4 average rating on Univision.
“Amor Real,” shipped on 50,000 units but Xenon is expecting sales of 100,000 units by the end of the year. “Rubi” shipped on an initial 75,000 units.
Xenon Pictures plans a July 12 release of an uncensored version of “Mi verdad” (My Truth), directed and produced by Juan Osorio.
Other upcoming telenovela DVD releases include “La torcha encendida” in August and “Rosalinda” toward the end of the year.
