Debut seg of Bochco skein already skedded for DVD
In a unique cross-promotional push for its new summer Iraq war drama series, FX is partnering with sister Fox Home Entertainment to release the July 27 pilot episode of Steven Bochco’s “Over There” on DVD less than a week later on Aug. 2.
This is believed to be the first time a pilot episode of a series has been offered for sale the same week it premieres on TV. DVD, which will also include a 15-minute behind-the-scenes featurette, will carry a suggested retail price of $9.98.
Fox is also planning to release a straight-to-DVD movie version of “Family Guy” this fall to tie in to new episodes of the resurrected series.
FX has ordered 13 episodes of “Over There” from 20th Century Fox Television, Bochco and Chris Gerolmo. Bochco’s first drama for a cable net follows the lives and struggles of seven American soldiers and their sergeant stationed in Iraq on their first tour of duty, as well as the characters’ families back home.
The “Inside Look” featurette on the DVD will include interviews with the two producers as well as star Erik Palladino; the series’ technical adviser, Staff Sergeant Sean Thomas Bunch USMC; and new FX prexy-general manager John Landgraf.
