Unit will extend the brand of theatrical release arm
“Cabin Fever” exec producer Susan Jackson has launched DVD label Freestyle Home Entertainment, which will be distributed by Universal Music & Video division Visual Entertainment.
The DVD production unit will extend the brand of theatrical distribution and marketing company Freestyle Releasing, launched last year by owners Jackson, Mark Borde and Mike Doban. Freestyle’s theatrical releases earlier this year included “Dot the I,” starring Gael Garcia Bernal, and “Modigliani,” starring Andy Garcia.
Later this year the company opens “Winter Passing,” starring Will Farrell and Ed Harris, and “Killer Diller,” starring Lucas Black, William Lee Scott and Fred Willard.
Freestyle Home Entertainment plans to release 20 DVD titles in 2006, including indie theatricals and straight-to-DVD pics in genres from thrillers and comedies to family and urban movies, beginning Nov. 1 with teen slasher “The Rockville Slayer,” starring Joe Estevez, Robert Z’Dar, Linnea Quigley and Ellie Weingardt.
Jackson, former head of BMG Independents, also continues to rep producers through her six-year-old Turtles Crossing sales agency and was exec producer of upcoming Lions Gate theatrical horror film “Borderland” plus Sony’s comedy “Death to the Supermodels,” starring Jaime Pressly.
Freestyle’s current theatricals are “The Green Street Hooligans,” starring Elijah Wood, and “Dirty Deeds,” starring Lacey Chabert.
