Alquimia pix shifts distribs

Deal includes 'Gronholm Method,' 'Condom Express'

MADRID — New Spanish distrib On Pictures will handle the next four pics from Francisco Ramos’ prolific Alquimia Cinema for theatrical and DVD/video.

Previously, Fox handled most Alquimia titles for distribution in Spain, with some going to Manga Films and Solida.

Deal includes satirical comedy “The Gronholm Method,” by Argentinian director Marcelo Pineyro; youth laffer “Condom Express,” written and directed by Luis Prieto; Enrique Gabriel’s trailer park-set drama “Small Lives”; and friendship dramedy “Your Life in 65 Minutes,” from Maria Ripoll (“Tortilla Soup”). Pics will bow in Spain in the second half of the year.

On will handles bookings and collections; Alquimia will oversee marketing.

Ramos was CEO of Aurum Prods., launched 10 years ago by the Asensio family, which owns Zeta.

“The distribution of independent films should be in the hands of independents,” Ramos said. “For On, we represent one-third of its annual distribution output, while we were just one-tenths of Fox’s.”

On Pictures has launched two films, both to soft B.O.: “Hotel Rwanda,” bought from Lions Gate, and Basque helmer Juanma Bajo Ulloa’s acerbic “Fragile: True Love Is a Fairy Tale.”
