Cable news net gets mobile
LAS VEGAS — Fox News Channel is going mobile.
No. 1 cable news net has signed a deal to air its live feed on mobile carrier Sprint’s wireless TV service.
It’s the first deal Fox News has made to puts its content on cell phones.
Competitors CNN and MSNBC are already available through a variety of wireless networks, including Sprint. But recent tech upgrades mean Fox News will launch as the first net with a feed that’s simultaneous with what’s on-air.
“Fox News Channel has always been the focus, and only now that we’re No. 1 are we thinking about how we can extend our brand to reach audiences outside the home,” said FNC digital media director Jeremy Steinberg.
Sprint TV offers users 17 different nets, including Discovery Channel and Weather Channel, as well as the cable news webs.
Steinberg said FNC is already exploring other mobile deals in an effort to reach a broad audience of cellular users.
