Star taps kid skeins

World Brief

Southern Star Entertainment U.K., part of Australian production company Southern Star Group, has taken a 75% stake in Blighty children’s producer Darrall Macqueen.

Principals Maddy Darrall and Billy Macqueen will retain 25% between them.

Darrall Macqueen supplies kids skeins including interactive Sunday morning show “Smile” and factual phobia skein “Feel the Fear” to pubcaster the BBC and commercial web ITV.

“This acquisition is consistent with our growth strategy of making small acquisitions of U.K.-based production houses to diversify our production operations,” said Southern Star Group topper Hugh Marks.

Marks took over the reins from founder Neil Balnaves in August and said that he would continue Balnaves’ international growth “primarily through acquisitions,” focusing on Blighty.

Group already has a strong concern in the U.K., where it owns Circle Communications and Primetime and has a majority holding in Carnival Films.
