Wright, Fourtou, Ballmer meet to discuss tactics
HOLLYWOOD — NBC Universal CEO and chairman Bob Wright and Vivendi Universal topper Jean-René Fourtou were among CEOs from the world’s leading companies who met in London on Tuesday to discuss ways to fight all forms of piracy.
Others included EMI Group honcho Eric Nicoli and Microsoft CEO Steven A. Ballmer as well as reps from other industries such as pharmaceutical firm GlaxoSmithKline and food giant Nestle.
They have formed the Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy (BASCAP) coalition, co-chaired by Fourtou and Nicoli. BASCAP is an initiative of the Intl. Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
“ICC has already successfully worked to put counterfeiting and piracy on the agenda of G8 governments,” Fourtou said. “The aim of BASCAP is twofold. To ensure governments now turn words into action and to help them raise awareness among the public of the seriousness of the problem.”
