TORONTO — Media giant CanWest Global Communications has chosen David Drybrough interim chair of its board of directors.
Drybrough is a former partner with accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand and was chief financial officer of Gendis, a pipeline and real estate company, until late 2003. An independent director of CanWest since that year, he will remain chair of the company’s audit committee.
“David Drybrough brings to this role impeccable credentials and a deep understanding of our company,” said CanWest prexy-CEO Leonard Asper.
Drybrough replaces Frank McKenna, a former politician and director of the company since 1999 who was appointed interim chair in 2003 after the sudden death of CanWest founder Israel (Izzy) Asper.
McKenna resigned from his post and from CanWest’s board to become Canada’s ambassador to the U.S.
