Singapore net to air in China

Reciprocal agreement carries CCTV on cable

SINGAPORE — China’s State Administration of Radio, Film and Television has given MediaCorp’s Channel NewsAsia(CNA) rights to broadcast to China’s top hotels and foreign residential compounds.

A reciprocal agreement was signed Friday between MediaCorp and China Intl. TV Corp.

CNA will be distributed in China and in return China’s CCTV 9 net will be carried on cable in Singapore beginning June 1.

Agreement was signed by Shaun Seow, group managing director of MediaCorp, and Li Jian, chief exec of CITV, at a ceremony in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People.

MediaCorp group CEO Ernest Wong described the agreement as “only the first step. We will have to work hard to ensure our viewers in China find our programs useful and relevant.”

CNA reaches 16 million homes and hotels in 18 territories across Asia.
