SINGAPORE — Walt Disney Television Intl. has finally rolled out Playhouse Disney, its preschool block targeting 2- to 5-year-olds, as a separate channel in two Asian markets.
In a move that’s been in the cards for at least 18 months, Playhouse Disney Channel bowed on pay TV Kabelvision in Indonesia and in Hong Kong Friday.
The two become the fourth and fifth markets to launch Playhouse Disney Channel after the U.K., Spain and France.
“With Indonesia and Hong Kong as a launch pad, we look forward to extending the distribution of Playhouse Disney across Southeast Asia and Korea,” said Doug Miller, Walt Disney Television Intl. senior veep and managing director for Asia Pacific.
Playhouse Disney was initially launched in Asia back in 2000 as a program block on the flagship Disney Channel.
