HONG KONG DreamWorks has chosen Hong Kong-based Imagi IP Holdings as the primary animation studio for its TV series “Father of the Pride.”
Imagi Animation Studios, a subsidiary of IMI Global Holdings, will handle the computer-generated animation including modeling, character animation, lighting, effects, compositing and rendering. The comedy, which follows a pride of white lions that perform in a world-famous Las Vegas act, will bow on NBC in the fall.
“This collaboration will boost Imagi to the position of a world-class animation studio in the Asia-Pacific region,” says Michael Kao, chairman and managing director of IMI.
Imagi, which was founded three years ago and now has more than 160 animators, is producing another CG-animated series with the working title “XSI.” The 52-episode series will be released in late 2005.
The $10 million “XSI” production, about the air bike adventures of young speeders, has its sights set on a worldwide distribution. The story was originated by Imagi. Japanese studio Mad House created the characters.
Imagi’s first CG-animated series, “Zentrix,” set in a futuristic world where humans are ruled by robots, has been released in France, Japan and Germany.
