‘Frasier’ finale draws 25.2 mil

NBC skeins close strong; NBA lifts ABC

Veteran comedy “Frasier” went out a winner Thursday, drawing more than 25 million viewers for its series finale and teaming with the season finale of “ER” to give NBC a victory for the night, according to final nationals from Nielsen.

From 8:54 to 10, “Frasier” averaged a 9.8 rating/24 share in adults 18-49 and 25.25 million viewers overall, topping CBS drama “CSI” (8.2/20 in adults 18-49, 22.53 million viewers overall). A clip show in the night’s opening hour averaged a 5.9/18 in adults 18-49 and 17.93 million viewers overall while “ER” closed out the night with hearty numbers for its season closer (11.3/28 in adults 18-49, 23.88 million viewers overall).

CBS was a strong second Thursday, led by “CSI,” a special episode of “Survivor: All Stars” at 8 (slot-leading 7.4/21 in adults 18-49, 19.11 million viewers overall) and a solid delivery at 10 for “Without a Trace” (5.7/14 in adults 18-49, 17.73 million viewers overall).

ABC did better than usual on a Thursday with the down-to-the-wire NBA playoff game between the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs, which averaged a 3.5/10 among adults 18-49 and 8.55 million viewers overall.

Fox, with a two-hour “Cops” spec, placed fourth (2.2/6 in adults 18-49, 5.07 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: NBC, 9.1/24; CBS, 7.1/19; ABC, 3.3/9; Fox, 2.2/6; UPN, 1.5/4; WB, 0.8/2.

In total viewers: NBC, 22.6 million; CBS, 19.8 million; ABC, 8.3 million; Fox, 5.1 million; UPN, 4.5 million; WB, 2.0 million.
