Fibertel puts premium on Playboy

Service aims to incorporate more content later

BUENOS AIRES — Internet service provider Fibertel, a division of No. 1 cabler Cablevision, is offering adult movies from Playboy TV and other providers via pay-per-view, even though premium content is proving a tough sell in Argentina.

Fibertel, which has around 100,000 subscribers, aims to incorporate more content later. Clients rent access for a seven days, paying $1 for Playboy content and 50¢ for other adult videos.

The 2001-02 economic crisis sapped demand for premium channels. In 2001, pay TV programmer Claxson launched a similar PPV service, El Sitio Digital Channel, that failed to catch on.

This month, Disney Channel Latin America shifted to basic on Cablevision, three years after launching as a premium, advertising-free service.
