World Brief

Digital paybox Premiere has landed all 64 matches of the 2006 World Cup soccer tournament, becoming the only broadcaster here to offer the entire tournament.

Pubcasters ARD and ZDF also will carry 48 of the most important games, including the live broadcast of the opening match, all German games and the final. Commercial web RTL will air eight matches.

As part of its deal with Swiss sports agency Infront, Premiere will air eight games exclusively. The pay TV group is planning a 24-hour channel devoted to the World Cup. Premiere will broadcast all the games in HDTV.
