Eye planning on starry specs, telepix

Slate includes Dr. Phil hour, Selleck's 'Cattle'

HOLLYWOOD — CBS has locked in a star-studded lineup of specials and movies for next season, including a live Madonna concert and primetime reunions for the casts of “Dallas” and “One Day at a Time.”

Eye is also taking advantage of its corporate cousin King World, scheduling a primetime special hosted by Dr. Phil.

On the movie front, new telepics announced Wednesday include projects starring Tom Selleck, Rob Lowe, Kirstie Alley and Mary-Louise Parker. As previously reported, Eye’s big miniseries for the 2004-05 season will be “Elvis” (Daily Variety, May 14).

Among the highlights of the net’s longform and specials slate:

  • The Material Mom will bring her Reinvention Tour to the Eye sometime next season. Two-hour live concert will feature Madonna singing her greatest hits, both in original and reworked forms. It’s the first broadcast concert for Madonna, who’s generally performed on HBO;

  • The Dr. Phil hour, airing in the fall, will feature the syndie chat king answering parents’ questions about kids;

  • Selleck plays a cattle boss who mysteriously comes out of retirement in “The Culpepper Cattle Company.” Fox TV Studios produces;

  • Lowe, starring in the Eye’s new drama “Dr. Vegas,” is a Gotham ad exec who switches jobs with a London ad rep in the romantic comedy “Perfect Strangers.” Working Title (“Notting Hill”) is producing the pic; no word yet on whether Bronson Pinchot will have a cameo;

  • Alley plays a woman with a secret past that comes back to haunt her when an old friend returns. Von Zerneck/Sertner Films is producing;

  • Mary-Louise Parker plays a schoolteacher whose marriage is coming apart in “Vinegar Hill,” which is based on the Oprah Book Club selection. Von Zerneck/Sertner Films is producing.

Theatricals set to bow on CBS next season include “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” “Ocean’s Eleven” and “The Bourne Identity.”
