Prod co. seals first Algerian deal with game show skein
AMSTERDAM — Endemol, in the latest in its sweep across Northern Africa, has sold its game show format “Split Decision” into Algeria, closing its first deal in that territory.
The deal was made with Algerian ad group KNRG media group, the biggest producer of commercials and billboard advertising in Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. Pact will have KNRG producing the first series of “Split Decision” in Tunisia, with Algerian candidates, then shipping the finished product to Algeria for airing by pubcaster ENTV.
Endemol over the last 18 months managed to break borders in Northern Africa by selling “Split Decision” to Cactus Productions, who produced the format for ERTT in Tunisia, then went on to pick up and produce, also for ERTT, game show formats “Watch Your Step,” set to launch in November and “One Versus 100,” to launch in August of 2005.
Louwerse maintains Endemol is on the cusp of closing its first deal with Morocco as well.
Endemol’s new Global Creative Team has, in the meantime, also unveiled details of its latest music talent show “The Immortals.”
In the show, retiring or already retired supergroups, duets, rock bands and even solo artists, hand over their band name and recording titles to new musicians and singers, help select them and then coach them to stardom. Finale has the winners playing together with the original superstars. then taking home a recording and touring contract and a cash prize. Another version of the format has a retired band making a comeback.
Format is currently being developed as a stripped daily for Europe and a weekly for North American. “The Immortals” follows on a string of talent shows to come out of the Endemol camp, among them “The Soundmix Show,” “Star Academy,” “Operacion Triunfo” and “Fame Academy.”
