Web firms relationship with reality guru's shingle
MONTREAL — Canuck web CTV has snared Canadian rights to “The Casino,” a new unscripted drama series created and exec produced by Mark Burnett.
Susanne Boyce, CTV’s president of programming, said the deal signals a new relationship between CTV and Mark Burnett Prods.
Global, CTV’s archrival, has always had Canuck rights to Burnett’s “Survivor” and continues to generate boffo ratings with the show. Global also airs Burnett’s “The Apprentice.”
“The Casino,” a 13-episode series, will debut on CTV on June 14. The series provides a 24/7 look at the real-life dramas at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, as new owners Tim Poster and Tom Breitling attempt to restore the glory of its Rat Pack heyday.
“Mark has a unique ability to create appointment television,” said Boyce.
CTV’s summer reality schedule includes homegrown “American Idol” spinoff “Canadian Idol,” and new episodes of “Newlyweds,” “A Simple Life” and “Punk’d.”
