China masks latenight sex talk show

World Brief

China has pulled its first latenight yakker about sex, skedded to air Jan. 1.

“The Masks,” in which everyone was to wear a mask to hide their embarrassment, was to bow on more than 50 provincial and city channels.

The order posted on the Web site of regulator the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television did not link the ban with the topic, but said producer Beijing Shixi Media had not arranged the correct permits. Attitudes about sex have relaxed in recent years but even in major cities it is still considered an off-limits topic for most families.

SARFT urged domestic TV and radio stations to strengthen management and monitoring of talkshow content.
