RIO DE JANEIRO — Producer RGB Entertainment is exporting the format of its Argentine soap opera hit “Floricienta” to Brazil.
The company and Brazil’s No. 4 net TV Bandeirantes will co-produce a local, Portuguese-language version of the show, about a housemaid who finds fame thanks to her musical talent. Lensing is scheduled to begin in February in Rio, and Bandeirantes intends to air “Floricienta” in March.
Smaller Brazilian nets are forced to look abroad for telenovelas and soaps because leading net TV Globo has exclusive contracts with the local top scriptwriters. No. 2 net SBT has for the past year produced telenovelas with scripts from Mexico’s Televisa.
The last time Argentina exported a format to a Brazilian net was in 1995-96, when SBT produced and aired soap opera “Chiquititas.”
According to RGB’s general director Elisabetta Zenatti, the original “Floricienta” is the highest-rated show currently on net Artear. RGB is working on the soap’s second season.
Net has also produced a legit musical with the soap’s cast, which has toured Argentina, and released a “Floricienta” record.
“We plan to release the show’s record two months after its opening on Bandeirantes and to premiere the musical in September or October,” Zenatti says.
