‘Apprentice,’ ‘ER’ top Thursday

NBC edged out CBS for a rare Thursday night victory in adults 18-49 behind winning results from “ER” and “The Apprentice 2,” according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen. CBS was still on top in adults 25-54 and total viewers.

With CBS airing repeats of its hit dramas, “ER” (8.4/22 in adults 18-49, 17.6 million viewers overall) beat the Eye’s “Without a Trace” (5.5/14 in adults 18-49, 17.6 million viewers overall), and “The Apprentice” (8.1/20 in adults 18-49, 16.7 million viewers overall) topped “CSI” (7.9/19 in adults 18-49, 24.3 million viewers overall). “CSI” remained the night’s most-watched program overall, though, while “Without a Trace” was on par with “ER” by this measure.

In the night’s opening hour, “Survivor: Vanuatu” (7.2/20 in adults 18-49, 19.7 million viewers overall) remained strong, overwhelming NBC’s firstrun “Joey” (4.7/13 in adults 18-49, 11.4 million viewers overall) and repeat “Will & Grace” (4.5/12 in adults 18-49, 10.5 million viewers overall). Fox’s “The OC” (2.8/8 in adults 18-49, 6.5 million viewers overall) was a distant third with its lowest scores of the season.

ABC was paced by “Primetime” at 10 (2.4/6 in adults 18-49, 6.6 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: NBC, 7/18; CBS, 6.9/18; Fox, 2.3/6; ABC, 2/5; UPN, 1.8/5; WB, .7/2.

In total viewers: CBS, 20.5 million; NBC, 15.1 million; ABC, 5.9 million; Fox, 5.2 million; UPN, 5.1 million; WB, 1.9 million.
