Yanks, Brits come together at 'Wimbledon' bow
HOLLYWOOD — Top tennis pros held court with “Wimbledon” stars at U’s Acad preem Monday. Former ace Chris Evert rubbed shoulders with current Wimbledon champ Maria Sharapova and the pic’s blond American star, Kirsten Dunst, while Pat Cash sized up Paul Bettany‘s form.
Working Title’s Liza Chasin said there’s a delicate balance in making Anglo-American pics like this. “You don’t want a big sloppy cultural mess. It has to be about, ‘Can these two people legitimately be together and fall in love?’ ”
Among the Anglos and Americans at the launch were U’s Ron Meyer, Stacey Snider and Marc Shmuger; producers Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan; director Richard Loncraine; co-star Jon Favreau; plus guests Jennifer Connelly, Bill Mechanic and former junior tennis ace Matthew Perry.
