Helmer overwhelmed by giant-sized preem

HOLLYWOOD — “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow” writer-director Kerry Conran admitted he had serious nerves at Tuesday night’s Chinese preem.

“I’m picturing you all naked right now and it isn’t helping,” he confessed to the crowd before “Sky” unspooled. He then told stars Jude Law, Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Bai Ling, “I’m willing to wash your cars in perpetuity.”

Afterward, Conran said he was amazed to have a premiere at the same locale as “Star Wars.” “I thought this would be a lot more low-key, with maybe some chocolate cake,” he said, surveying the post-preem party.

Paramount stationed robots outside the screening and post-preem party, which benefited AFI. Event drew Viacom chief Sumner Redstone, Par’s Sherry Lansing, Donald De Line and Tom Jacobson, plus “Star Wars” thesp Mark Hamill.
