HOLLYWOOD — There were plenty of telltale black T-shirts with white skulls at Monday night’s ArcLight preem of “The Punisher.”
The comicbook’s fan base was out in force at the Lions Gate bow and SoHo Project after-party. But star Thomas Jane cited Lee Marvin’s perf in the 1967 thriller “Point Blank” as one of his inspirations for the G-Man gone amok.
“I just saw an opportunity to make a stripped-down, bare-knuckle, hardcore, punk-rock action film,” Jane said. “It’s not for everybody; we’re not selling Happy Meals here.”
Also in attendance were co-stars John Travolta and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos along with Marvel’s Avi Arad and producer Gale Anne Hurd plus Lions Gate’s Jon Feltheimer, Michael Burns and Tom Ortenberg.
