HOLLYWOOD –Scribe-helmer Richard Kelly brought out the dancing girls for Thursday night’s preem of “Donnie Darko: The Director’s Cut” at the Egyptian Theater. Sparkle Motion, a five-girl troupe featured in the 2001 cult classic, performed at the after-bash.
“I never once doubted your commitment to Sparkle Motion,” Kelly quipped before the screening.
Brooding pic screened with 20 minutes of extra footage and was followed by a Q&A with many of the principals, including Kelly, star Jake Gyllenhaal and co-star Katharine Ross.
For Kelly, re-releasing and re-premiering pic was a surreal experience.
“It’s absurd and it’s ridiculous,” he said. “It’s unusual to have a director’s cut of your first movie before you’ve even freakin’ made a second movie.”
