Costumer slips into cozy pair

Monaghan sang Dickson's praises

HOLLYWOOD — Who cares if hobbits don’t wear shoes? “The Lord of the Rings” costume designer Ngila Dickson still appreciates a well-turned heel — and there were plenty of them on display at New Line’s Shoes & Champagne fete for the Oscar contender last week in BevHills.

After eyeing the fancy Taryn Rose footwear, “Rings” co-star Dominic Monaghan sang Dickson’s praises, explaining some of the subtle ways she designed hobbit gear to make the characters look slightly off normal, including buttons too large and high on the shirt.

Shoe impresario Rose, a surgeon-turned-footwear designer, used the occasion to show off her red-carpet line of comfy shoes for big nights near the bright lights. Dickson will have one of those later this month, when she could go home with an Oscar for either “Rings” or “The Last Samurai.”
