Fashion accessories show celebs care
Bracing news for showbiz Kabbalah devotees: Lance Armstrong‘s “live strong” wristbands have strong-armed its red-string adornments as celebs’ must-have arm candy of the summer. In recent weeks, everyone from Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow to John Kerry have been spotted with the yellow rubber bracelets.
Trend locust Lindsay Lohan added the band to her Kabbalah string, presumably warding off the evil eye with one arm (red string or bendel) and fending off cancer (live strong) with the other.
The Lance Armstrong Foundation is racing to keep up with escalating demand for the $1 bracelets, now selling between 100,000 to 150,000 daily, according to spokeswoman Michelle Milford. And although CAA threw a bash at Cannes during the launch of Nike’s campaign, it hasn’t played a hands-on role in the campaign since.
“The celebrities are wearing them on their own,” she says, attributing the widespread support to the pervasive nature of cancer.
“Gwyneth Paltrow lost her father to cancer. John Kerry wore a bracelet on the night he accepted the Democratic nomination, and he’s had cancer,” she says.
Kabbalah strings, meanwhile, aren’t quite ready for primetime. Target recently stopped selling its “Red String Package” on its Web site.
