Anthony “Tony” Meilandt, former personal manager of Herbie Hancock and other musicians, died suddenly in his New York apartment March 16. He was 46.

Besides Hancock, Meilandt was former personal manager of Fine Young Cannibals, Wayne Shorter and Bill Laswell.

He was the music coordinator and had an acting role in Bertrand Tavernier’s “‘Round Midnight” (1986), which produced an Oscar for Hancock’s score. He brought together David Byrne and Ryuichi Sakamoto for ‘The Last Emperor,” (1987) which also won a music Academy Award the following year. At the time of his death, Meilandt was in the process of executive producing an album for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

He is survived by his parents and a brother.
