Voy taps toppers Pretlow and Medel

New chairman and prexy take over the day-to-day

Industry vets Jose Pretlow and Gloria Medel have joined Beverly Hills-based Voy Pictures Television as chairman and prexy respectively.

Voy Pictures Television is a subsidiary of fledgling entertainment company Voy, which targets the burgeoning English-speaking U.S. Latino market.

Pretlow has worked with some of the biggest names in talk TV including Geraldo Rivera, Phil Donahue, Sally Jesse Raphael and Leeza Gibbons.

He will provide strategic direction for Voy TV’s programming activities and produce shows for Voy’s distribution platforms and syndication.

“I hope to put together a series of programs that will empower people in some way,” Pretlow said. Based in Los Angeles, Pretlow produced “Go!” a one-hour daily talk show for syndication hosted by Voy founder-chairman Fernando Espuelas.

Medel, who will help create shows and oversee day-to-day production, co-produced “The Original Latin Kings of Comedy” for Showtime and the 2003 and 2004 MTV Video Music Awards Latin America.

She has co-ordinated projects for David Bowie, Johnny Cash, Gloria Estefan, Elton John, Ricky Martin, Joni Mitchell and Mexican pop star, Thalia.

Her live television production experience includes TNT Network’s AllStar tributes to Johnny Cash and Joni Mitchell and A&E’s skein “Live by Request.”

“By hiring seasoned executives with track records, I hope they will also serve as a magnet for Latino and non-Latino talent,” Espuelas said.

Voy includes film, publishing, music and cable television divisions. Espuelas is in talks with various platforms for its cable network.
