Exec joins Scorsese, Koontz, Krantz on project

HOLLYWOOD — “The X-Files” exec producer John Shiban has been tapped to serve as showrunner-exec producer for the USA drama “Frankenstein.”

Exec producers for the project are Martin Scorsese, author Dean Koontz and Flame TV topper Tony Krantz. Koontz penned the script to be directed by “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” helmer Marcus Nispel.

In addition to exec producing “X-Files,” Shiban exec produced the ABC drama “Threat Matrix,” UPN’s “Star Trek: Enterprise” and Fox’s “The Lone Gunmen.”

Parker Posey plays a homicide detective in the updated version of the Mary Shelley novel (Daily Variety, March 23). Casting is still under way for the other lead roles.

One-hour weekly revolves around a pair of cops who unravel the myth of Frankenstein’s monster — who is alive and well with the doctor in present-day Seattle — while on a routine investigation.

Lions Gate TV is producing in association with Flame TV. Production begins May in Toronto for a target fall premiere.
