Leading U.S. Hispanic net Univision Network has scrapped the acquisitions department in its Los Angeles headquarters.
Managing director Miguel Kahan and two other staff members have ankled, although Kahan remains on board as a consultant. Univision has decided to fold its film division into the programming department in Miami, headed by Alberto Santini Lara.
Inhouse and acquired telenovelas and skeins comprise most of Univision’s programming. News and sports round out the programming sked.
At the recent upfront in May, the company announced the upcoming airings of only two features, “Frida” and “The Crime of Father Amaro.”
However, fast-growing sister net TeleFutura runs a daily 9 p.m. primetime movie block, “Cine de las Estrellas,” and a weekend afternoon slot, “Cineplex.”
Upcoming titles at TeleFutura include “Batman Forever,” “As Good as It Gets,” “The Man in the Iron Mask,” “The Tailor of Panama” and “Trapped.”
