26 segs selected on basis of educational merit
“The Smurfs” are back.
DIC Entertainment has acquired broadcast rights to 26 half-hour episodes of the popular Hanna-Barbera toon, which will begin airing again in January.
Show will be seen on DIC Kid’s Network in a three-hour block whose programs meet “core” FCC requirements. The 26 specific episodes were selected on the basis of educational merit in order to qualify.
“The Smurfs,” which helped define NBC as a Saturday morning ratings juggernaut in the early 1980s, still airs on major broadcast outlets internationally.
