Peacock concerned over compromise
NBC News prexy Neal Shapiro and California first lady Maria Shriver reached no final decision Thursday regarding the fate of Shriver’s career at newsmag “Dateline.”NBC is trying to determine whether Shriver’s new status compromises her role as journalist. Shapiro, who was in California for the midseason Television Critics Assn. press tour, set aside time to sit down with Shriver to discuss the issue and whether it is possible for her to continue as “Dateline” correspondent. “They will touch base next week,” an NBC News spokeswoman said. When Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger entered the recall race, Shriver took a leave of absence from “Dateline.” She returned to the newsmag after the election, with NBC News saying there were plenty of stories she could cover that didn’t involve her husband. But concerns resurfaced over the extent of Shriver’s involvement in her husband’s administration, prompting Shapiro to revisit the issue. Insiders say Shriver is equally concerned about not compromising NBC News.
