Sci-Fi placing orders

'SG-1' now longest running sci-fier on TV

Sci Fi Channel has ordered new seasons of top-rated hours “Stargate SG-1” and “Stargate Atlantis.”

Cabler has greenlit production on 20 more episodes of each skein, both from MGM TV Entertainment.

Production is slated to begin in March for summer bows.

Ninth season renewal for “SG-1” makes the drama the longest-running sci-fi drama on TV, tied with “The X-Files.” MGM is in negotiations with the cast to return for another season.

Last summer, “Atlantis” premiered to 4.2 million viewers — the biggest aud for a series premiere in Sci Fi history. Joe Flanigan, Torri Higginson, David Hewlett, Rainbow Sun Francks, Rachel Luttrell and Paul McGillion are on board for the second cycle.

Robert C. Cooper and Brad Wright will continue to exec produce both series.
