McCaffrey to deal with scripted, unscripted programs

Tenpercenter Katy McCaffrey has plunged into Watson Pond, joining the shingle recently launched by former 20th Century Fox TV exec Brad Johnson.

McCaffrey, who was a literary agent at William Morris, joins Watson Pond as vice prexy of development. Johnson, who serves as president of Watson Pond, announced the hire Tuesday.

Johnson said McCaffrey was a “perfect fit” for Watson Pond. “Katy’s background in finding books, magazine articles and life rights that can be converted to series gives us the resources to attract talent,” Johnson said. “Katy is also going to be a great source of new voices, as most of her contacts are outside the Hollywood mainstream.”

McCaffrey will work closely with Johnson in developing scripted and unscripted programs for the pod, which is set up at 20th Century Fox TV. She’ll help Johnson locate talent, handle writers and pitch shows, as well as oversee the creative on any projects that go to pilot and series.

“This position allows me to experience a new side of the business while still working to bring the great authors and articles and ideas that have been so inspiring to me over the years into development,” McCaffrey said.

McCaffrey had been at William Morris since 1997, starting out in the reality TV, cable and syndication department. She later started handling book subrights, selling them into the series, longform and feature arenas.

McCaffrey’s credits include working with authors such as Fannie Flagg and repping “Wigfield,” the work of comedians Paul Dinello, Stephen Colbert and Amy Sedaris.
