“The Shield” creator Shawn Ryan has teamed with “Charmed” scribe Mark Wilding to create a new political drama for NBC.
Project, from 20th Century Fox TV, revolves around a Connecticut congressman and his wife. The morally complicated character is modeled after LBJ, but if he lives in the year 2004.
Show will be told through the eyes of the Congressman’s 17-year-old intern, as viewers see the business of politics unfold from the perspective of an innocent.
Wilding and Ryan, both repped by ICM, will co-write and exec produce the project, a script with a heavy penalty attached.
Ryan’s in for a busy year: In addition to this project, he’s in the process of working on episode for season four of “The Shield” and partnering with David Mamet to create a CBS drama about the elite antiterrorism Delta Force (Daily Variety, Aug. 24).
Ryan’s other credits include “Angel” and “Nash Bridges.”
Besides “Charmed,” Wilding has worked on “Jake 2.0,” as well as comedies “Ellen,” “Working,” “Jesse,” “Caroline and the City” and “The Naked Truth.”
