Medical, fashion, detective skeins among those sought
Network execs returned from the long weekend itching to order a few pilots, as NBC, Fox and UPN all greenlit drama projects Tuesday.
NBC picked up a medical drama from Jason Horwitch, Bob Cooper and Scott Vila; over at Fox, net is moving forward with an untitled Kathryn Bigelow drama; UPN ordered the three Warner Bros. TV dramas “Beck and Call,” “Nicki and Nora” and “Veronica Mars.”
Peacock project centers on a man who unravels medical mysteries. Horwitch will write and exec produce the untitled NBC Studios/Landscape Pictures project, along with Landscape’s Bob Cooper and Scott Vila.
Horwitch, who’s repped by BWCS, wrote the FX telepic “The Pentagon Papers” and the feature “Finding Graceland.” Project is cast-contingent.
Over at UPN, the pilot presentation “Beck and Call” revolves around the New York fashion world, as seen through the personal lives of the industry’s executives and assistants (Daily Variety, Oct. 17).
Project comes from Greer Shephard and Michael Robin and scribe Dan Bucatinsky (“All Over the Guy”).
Bucatinsky wrote the script, and will exec produce with Shephard and Robin. “Friends” star Lisa Kudrow is also likely to be attached as an exec producer, although that deal is still being worked out.
Also, “Veronica Mars,” written and exec produced by Rob Thomas (“Cupid”) is about a spoiled teen girl who reunites with her estranged, down-on-his-luck father. The girl ends up helping with his detective agency (Daily Variety, Oct. 28).
Joel Silver (and his Silver Pictures) is also attached to exec produce.
Then there’s “Nikki and Nora,” about two New Orleans-based private detectives who also harbor a secret: They’re lesbians.
Project comes from writers and exec producers Nancylee Myatt (“Living Single”) and Leonard Dick (“Tarzan”). Myatt’s repped by ICM, Dick by Vision Art.
Meanwhile, Fox has decided to move forward with a drama from helmer Bigelow (“Point Break”) and scribes Todd and Glenn Kessler (“Robbery Homicide Division”) about a woman who goes undercover inside a high school.
Untitled project from Imagine TV and 20th Century Fox TV had already been developed as a put pilot (Daily Variety, Sept. 26).
Bigelow is attached to direct the project, while the Kesslers will write. Imagine’s Brian Grazer and TV prexy David Nevins will exec produce, alongside Bigelow and Todd Kessler. Glenn Kessler will co-exec produce.
