Janet gives an Eye-ful

Anonymous source claims stunt was approved by network

CBS’ Super Bowl coverage yielded a moment of uncoverage the network maintains it didn’t expect, as singer Janet Jackson’s breast was exposed during the elaborate halftime show, prompting a flurry of complaints.

CBS Sports quickly issued a statement Sunday evening saying the network “deeply regrets the incident that occurred during the Super Bowl halftime show” and that based on rehearsals during the week, there was “no indication that any such thing would happen.”

Network officials noted they would have no reason to alienate their audience or the NFL on the night of what is traditionally TV’s most-watched telecast — disputing an anonymous claim on Internet site the Drudge Report that the stunt was approved by the network.

Jackson appeared to have a tassel over her nipple, but the rest of her breast was exposed.

New England won a thriller over Carolina, 32-29, on a field goal with four seconds remaining. On the down side for CBS, the game didn’t end until 10:29 p.m. Eastern time, meaning the premiere of “Survivor: All-Stars” didn’t begin until roughly 11 p.m. on the East Coast.
