SINGAPORE — Monday’s premiere of “Singapore Idol” pulled in 1.2 million viewers on MediaCorp TV’s Channel 5, according to MediaCorp-commissioned Taylor Nelson Sofres ratings figures.
This viewership reps around 30% of Singapore’s population of 4 million. In a statement, the broadcaster claimed a record as the highest-rated debut ever for a locally produced program on Channel 5.
“Idol” debut episode aired at 8:30 p.m. on a public holiday, immediately after the live telecast of the National Day Parade. Format, jointly owned by Fremantle Media and 19TV, also is proving a success in Indonesia and Malaysia.
