Reality skein to return later in fall
CBS is giving fans of “The Amazing Race” a chance to catch their breath. The sixth installment of the Bert van Munster/Jerry Bruckheimer reality skein was set to begin Oct. 2, just days after the fifth season of the show is scheduled to air its finale. Now, however, Eye execs have decided to push back the bow of the next “Race” until late October or early November. This isn’t the first time CBS has delayed the “Race.” Season six was slated to premiere Sept. 25; net pushed that to Oct. 2 a few weeks ago. CBS senior exec VP Kelly Kahl said waiting a few weeks made sense; Eye regularly waits a month or so between installments of “Survivor.” “We’ve seen (evidence) that it really helps to put a little space between one version and the next,” he said. “We want to let the audience breathe a little before we bring the show back.” “Race” — which will defend its Emmy title Sunday — is still set to air on Saturday nights, despite the show’s boffo perf this summer Tuesdays at 10 p.m. Indeed, the fifth “Race” and “Big Brother 5″ will end their runs next week among the most-watched original skeins of the summer. Same-week repeats of “Survivor” will fill “Race’s” Saturday slot in the short term. CBS also has several reality skeins on its bench — including “The Will” and “Fire Me Now” — that could be used to fill the slot as well.
