Vet will oversee corporate, international legal group

Corii Berg has been named executive vice president, legal affairs, for Sony Pictures Entertainment. In addition, Berg has been promoted to exec VP business and legal affairs, for Sony Pictures Digital.

In his expanded role, Berg will oversee SPE’s corporate and international legal group, which, among other duties, is responsible for the legal affairs of SPE’s corporate development group and Sony Pictures Television Intl.’s worldwide channel operations and domestic pay television distribution biz. He will maintain his current responsibilities managing Sony Pictures Digital Networks’ business and legal affairs group and continue to report to Leah Weil, SPE corporate exec veepee and general counsel.

“Corii is a key member of our senior legal team and I am delighted to recognize his contributions with this promotion and to have him expand his role further,” said Weil. “His broad understanding of the global marketplace and our company’s digital initiatives, coupled with his keen negotiation skills, make him a tremendous asset to our organization.”

Started at firm in ’95

Berg, who joined SPE in 1995 as an attorney in the corporate and international legal group, has held several key positions within SPE’s legal department. The last three years he has focused his work exclusively on Sony Pictures Digital as its senior VP of business and legal affairs, overseeing SPE’s investment in Movielink and Sony Pictures Digital’s recent purchase of the media software assets of Sonic Foundry.

He previously worked as a transactional lawyer for Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.
