Air America seeks L.A. home

MultiCultural to keep venture in Chi until April 30

Fledgling liberal radio network Air America is still looking for a place to land in Chicago and Los Angeles, but it won’t be on the two outlets that initially carried its programming.

The venture announced that it has negotiated a settlement in Chicago with MultiCultural Radio, which prompted a legal skirmish after abruptly dropping the start-up in both markets. MultiCultural will keep hosts such as Al Franken and Janeane Garofalo on in the Windy City until April 30, after which a new station must be found. The company also said it’s in discussions for another home in Los Angeles, where its lineup has been off since KBLA-AM (1580) returned to Spanish-language programming.

Despite the setback, Air America’s Web site notes that it has added nearly a dozen affiliates since last month’s launch, including San Francisco and several smaller markets.
