NBC-U merger contributed to exec's exit
USA Network exec veep-general manager Michele Ganeless will exit the cabler in June.
Since her arrival in June 2001, Ganeless has shared the No. 2 spot at USA with programming exec VP Jeff Wachtel under recent president Doug Herzog.
Herzog hired Ganeless — a fellow Comedy Central alumnus — shortly after taking the helm.
Insiders had predicted that Ganeless’ responsibilities would shrink following restructuring after the NBC Universal merger. She was primarily responsible for marketing and USA’s day-to-day operations.
Ganeless and top execs had discussed options to keep her at USA but she has elected to ankle.
USA declined comment.
Meanwhile, Wachtel will likely remain as programming chief, reporting to newly elected NBC U cable president Bonnie Hammer.
Ganeless was previously senior VP of programming at Comedy Central, where she had oversight of scheduling, acquisitions, operations, programming research and international sales.
She also was VP of research and strategic planning at MTV Networks and manager of programming research at MTV’s Ha! Network.
