U taps media relations veep

Exec to serve as primary strategist for internal, external imaging

Paul Pflug has joined Universal Pictures as senior veepee of media relations.

The addition of Pflug — who was formerly at Miramax and Artisan — is part of U’s efforts to enhance the studio’s corporate profile in consumer, biz and entertainment media. He will serve as the primary strategist for internal and external corporate and executive imaging and will work alongside the existing corporate communications and publicity teams both at Universal Pictures and Universal Studios.

Pflug commenced his new post on May 3. He reports directly to U vice chairman Marc Shmuger.

Pflug joins an already seasoned media team that numbers Susan Fleishman, U’s senior VP, corporate communications and public affairs; Michael Moses, executive VP of publicity; Jeffrey Sakson, senior VP of publicity; and Vivian Mayer, senior VP of publicity for Universal Studios Home Video.

Prior to Universal, Pflug did a yearlong stint at Miramax as executive VP of media relations and corporate communications.
