Syndie ratings slide in sweeps follow-up

Of 14 yakkers, only 'Ellen' gets a rise

NEW YORK — Syndie ratings tumbled during the week of Dec. 6-12, the first week after the November sweeps period, with daytime broadcast viewing falling by an average of 448,000 households (around 2%).

Each of the top 10 strips declined, except for No. 8 “Judge Judy” (unchanged at 5.2) and No. 10 “Judge Joe Brown” (up one-tenth to a season high of 3.6).

Out of 14 talkshows, only one saw an increase from the previous week: “Ellen” rose 5% to 2.2. Five yakkers were unchanged and eight declined.

In its first week after long-running champion Ken Jennings lost, “Jeopardy!” plunged 12% to 8.1.

No rookie firstrun syndie skein saw an increase. “The Insider” (2.7), “Tony Danza” (1.3), “Pat Croce” (0.7) and “Life & Style” (0.5) were all unchanged. “Jane Pauley” (1.5), “Ambush Makeover” (1.0) and “Larry Elder” (0.9) each dipped one-tenth.

Top-rated off-net rookie “Malcolm in the Middle” bucked the trend by rising one-tenth to a series high of 3.5.
