Second Stage reminiscences

Gala raised nearly $900K for Off B'way co.

Second Stage Theater’s 25th anni gala Monday at Cipriani’s in Gotham was alum night, drawing Annette Bening, Kevin Bacon and Cynthia Nixon along with co-founders Carole Rothman and Robyn Goodman.

Bacon said he met Kyra Sedgwick through Second Stage (long, complicated story). And after Nixon offered a dead-on impersonation of Rothman, she complimented the company on inviting her to their shows “when I’m famous and the next week when I’m not so famous.”

The gala honored the company’s co-chairmen, Tony Kiser and Stephen C. Sherrill, who recalled Robert De Niro‘s typically taciturn appearance at Second Stage’s annual bowling tournament. “De Niro didn’t seem to understand (the joke) when he won the team-spirit award,” Sherrill said.

Gala raised nearly $900,000 for the Off Broadway company.
