Sutphen to lobby with emphasis on intellectual property
WASHINGTON — Viacom’s Washington lobbying office has lured David Sutphen away from the Recording Industry Assn. of America.
Sutphen was the senior veep for government and industry relations for the RIAA and will become Viacom’s veep of government affairs. In this position, he will lobby Congress and the Bush administration on public policy with a special emphasis on intellectual property issues.
Prior to his tenure at the RIAA, Sutphen served as general counsel to Sen. Edward Kennedy on the Senate Judiciary Committee and, before that, served as Rep. Harold Ford’s (D-Tenn.) chief of staff and counsel.
“David is an extremely respected and effective advocate with invaluable legislative experience and excellent credentials,” Carol Melton, who heads Viacom’s Washington office, said in a statement.
