PGA honors ‘Rescue Me’

Sekin's producers will be feted on Jan. 22

The Producers Guild of America has tapped FX’s “Rescue Me” as recipient of its 2005 Visionary Award.

The kudo — aimed at honoring productions with a “unique or uplifting quality” — will be presented to exec producers Denis Leary, Peter Tolan, Jim Serpico and producer Kerry Orent at the 16th Annual PGA Awards on Jan. 22. Past recipients include “Angels in America,” “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” and “America: A Tribute to Heroes.”

“Rescue Me” revolves around the lives of the men in a New York City fire house with Leary starring as the senior firefighter of his crew.

“We felt like we were doing something special and it’s nice to get recognition from someone other than ourselves,” Tolan said.

PGA Awards co-chairs Stacey Sher and Lauren Shuler Donner said, “‘Rescue Me’ is one of the rare series that grasps the nature of true heroism — that it is transient, conditional and fleeting, and that it cannot exist apart from the inevitable human flaws that plague us all.
