Military overtakes Wings

Network to kick off on Jan. 10

NEW YORK — Discovery Wings Channel, one of Discovery Communications’ digital multiplex networks, will be redubbed the Military Channel on Jan. 10.

While Wings focuses exclusively on aviation, the Military Channel will branch out “to tell the personal stories of servicemen and women and offer in-depth explorations of military technology, battlefield strategy, aviation and history.”

David Karp, senior VP and general manager of the Military Channel, said the network will kick off Jan. 10 with two world-TV premieres: “Task Force Red Dog,” a one-hour special that follows a unit of Marine Corps reservists heliocoptering through the mountains of Afghanistan to root out pockets of Taliban terrorists, and the two-hour “Delta Company,” a look at Marines assigned to the 1st Tank Battalion as they push into Baghdad to help overthrow Saddam Hussein.
