Jenny’s found a new block: Jennifer Lopez will exec produce a project in development at UPN.
Lopez and her Nuyorican Prods. partner Simon Fields have teamed with Flame Entertainment’s Tony Krantz (“24”) and scribe Matt Cirulnick (“Paid in Full”) to create a soap opera set in Miami’s famed South Beach — a favorite playground for Lopez.
Insiders said UPN offered a decent penalty for the script, which would be produced by sib studio Paramount Network TV. Besides Lopez, Fields, Krantz and Cirulnick would exec produce the project.
Lopez wouldn’t star but would be involved in the process; she previously developed a sitcom at NBC based on her experiences growing up in the Bronx.
Lopez, who got her start in TV via the shows “In Living Color” and “Second Chances,” hasn’t shied away from the small screen in recent years, guest starring twice on “Will & Grace” and headlining an NBC concert special. Last year Nuyorican signed a first-look deal with Fox TV Studios and Regency TV, but that pact has since ended.
Besides the screenplay to “Paid in Full,” Cirulnick’s credits include the Peacock pilot “Thomas Crown Affair.” Fields’ credits, meanwhile, include the recent release “Shall We Dance,” which stars Lopez. Actress, producer and singer will next be seen in the films “An Unfinished Life” and “Monster-in-Law.”
