Before “We Don’t Live Here Anymore” got under way Thursday night, Warner Independent prexy Mark Gill warned the DGA crowd about the marriage drama’s resonating power.
“Wait 48 hours and it’ll get a lot better,” he advised preemgoers.
“Maybe we should have the party in 48 hours,” parried helmer John Curran.
Afterward, Gill picked up the theme while also alluding to the pic’s author in common with a certain Miramax prestige title.
“Andre Dubus wrote my good luck talisman ‘In the Bedroom,’ ” he pointed out.
The project had even more personal resonance for producer Jonas Goodman, who first read the short stories the pic is based upon in 1980, when his father, Dubus’ lit editor, gave them to him.
Front Street’s Harvey Kahn came across Larry Gross‘ adaptation “seven to eight years ago” and was struck by “the raw truth to it.”
Also on hand: three of the pic’s four leads, Naomi Watts, Mark Ruffalo and Laura Dern, who was accompanied by thesp parents Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd; plus guests including helmers David O. Russell and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Julie Delpy and Amanda Peet.
